Managed services enable budget conscious IT departments to provide a higher level of service and support for a predictable, monthly charge. With a consistent service level, stable costs, and ongoing support, Solarcom Managed Services provides a superior level of service. Our partners are able to leverage, in a seamless fashion, the resources of our professional and managed services teams, and the capabilities of our vendor partners such as Symantec, NTT/Verio and TUSC. By presenting these capabilities to their customers, our partners can offer best of breed solutions. These capabilities enable our partners to compete for, and, win more deals. Managed Security Services (MSS) includes intrusion and event management and firewall services. However, additional services also include event forensics, threat management, and policy planning and development. In addition, Solarcom can perform a variety of threat and security assessments including voice and data network, application analysis, and network awareness. Intrusion detection includes the ongoing maintenance of IDS sensors inside and outside of the network. Depending upon customer requirements, there are a variety of ways to respond to an attack or event. Generally, the IDS sensor is continually populated by a database which is maintained by the MSS provider. Once an event has been triggered, the IDS will fingerprint the attack, compare it to the heuristics which are predefined for various events, and assess the likelihood of damage to the network or application. If possible, the IDS can stop the attack, return the attack, or even in some cases let the attack through. While the IDS patrols the network, the firewall is responsible for the processing and intelligence of the network itself. A well configured firewall will work in tandem with the IDS to ensure continuous monitoring of network traffic, working to identify rogue or unknown traffic. Well managed firewalls protect the inside of the network as well as the outside. A good security policy is as concerned about internal attacks and compromises as well as outside.
Managed Hosting / Colocation / ASP Hosting does not involve only the Internet or Web. Hosting can include the Web, but can also be composed of extranets, or internal application processing capabilities. Managed hosting allows for an organization to place it's equipment at the Comlanta, or other partners, facility, and utilize that equipment in a secure environment. Comlanta is responsible, depending upon customer requirements, for a variety of services which may go up to and include the operating system stack. Basic co-location includes "pipe, power and ping." A connection to the wide area network is provided, along with clean and consistent power, and a period ping for network awareness. Beyond that basic capability, Comlanta or other vendors will work with the partner and customer to tailor the interactivity of the environment. This could include o/s patches, usage resets, and other types of capabilities. We offer aggressive hosting capabilities to our partners through Comlanta. We also have access to other capabilities through NTT/Verio, Qwest, AT&T and others.
The vast majority of database installations today are hosted on Oracle. The current complexity of the database, and the administrative duties associated with it, have created opportunities for organizations such as Solarcom vendor partner TUSC. This company provides global converge to augment, support, or complete manage Oracle databases. The support can range from functioning as a remote DBA, to the continual management, refresh and optimization database structures, whether for proprietary applications, or hosting commercial applications such as SAP.
